✅ When doing your grocery shop, sorting out which organic fruits and vegetables you should buy can be a confusing task. 😃 ⠀
👨🏻🌾 🌏 Each year the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a non-profit organization, releases a Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce that lists fruits and vegetables with the highest and lowest pesticide residues. 👩🏻 The produce is tested after it's brought home from the grocery store and washed, just like you would do at home and the results are published.
🌱 🌱 Buying all organic foods isn't always affordable especially if you have a small family to feed! I know I’ve 3 fast growing hungry boys who always seem to be hungry! 👬 Then a great strategy I find really helps is to buy a small selection of organic food that, I know is high in the most contaminated list 🌱
When buying fruit or veg I try to think if I’m going to be eating that food whole, with its skin on and unpeeled. For example, carrots and apples. Then when I’m shopping I will try to buy the organic version of this food. This means I can help eliminate the number of pesticides and as well as time standing at the sink peeling them too! ⠀
What I find fascinating is that pesticide applications to crops result in varying levels of residues remaining in, or on, the food. 💦 🤮 💦 The application of pesticides (insecticides, herbicides, fungicides etc.) does not only take place while the crop is growing, but can also be applied as a seed treatment, or post-harvest to assist with transportation, storage or the cosmetic look of a particular item.
So here is my top fruit and veg that I try and aim to always by organic. Yes, it adds a little onto each shopping bill but long term I really think the health benefits are worth it:⠀
